T
he aim of the project is to put the users, Visually Impaired Persons (VIPs) at the center of the design process, with the ultimate goal of designing a tool that will increase VIPs’ independence by allowing them to navigate indoors. Our team firmly believes that innovation is not necessarily about designing something new or challenging but rather it starts with an in-depth understanding of the user, with a real-world problem to solve. This in-depth understanding of the users’ tasks, motivations, and everyday struggles, can be elicited through strategic inquiry. We cannot simply ask a user what they want, we have to work with them over time to engage in latent perceptions. Only then will we be able to unearth physical, emotional, and cognitive needs.
