The project tackles an issue that faces the wheelchairs’ users. They can’t overcome a curb when there is no ramp. The main objective of the project is to develop an assistive device for conventional wheelchairs to climb curbs. The working methodology includes reviewing, investigating, improving and building an effective design. The team consists of one mechanical engineer, two mechanical engineering students, a business administration graduate, and a high school student. Design constraints have been developed based on the requirement of the co-designer and other functional aspects. Two conceptual designs have been developed and explained in this report. Both designs are mechanical design. The project will continue in designing and developing an effective assistive device for wheelchair users to climb curbs. The following DI Design Signature shows how the project is proceeding so far.
